My Focus seems to be leaking something water like and having looked under the bonnet now the engine coolant is below minimum so I'd assume it is that. The car is booked in for a service and MOT on Monday but I need to cover 400 miles before then, can I just top it up with water or do I need to get coolant and if thats the case are there different types and what do I buy?

I've found some ready mixed antifreeze and summer coolant I'm pretty sure this will do the job, it will work won't it and I'm not about to do something stupid.

Generally a ethyl glycol based coolant should be fine, water alone will be fine, but its better to have some coolant in. Should only be a few quid for a bottle at a motorfactors.

Water will be fine for 400 miles.

If you want to add coolant make sure you don't mix the blue/green stuff with the purple stuff.

Could be condensation from the aircon if it's 'water like'. My coolant's green.

Won't do any harm topping up the coolant, though.
