Won't get you aywhere in the rad, wil just flush the rad, none of it will go through the engine because the thermostat will be closed. Flushing the engine can be done by sticking a hose in the heater matrix hose (with the other one also disconnected for the flush to escape again ), that will flush the engine side of the system. Possibly easier to just remove the stat though.
I used to take the rad out and put it in the shower when I had the 19, oh the memories (and grazed knuckles)
Can be done various ways depending on the car, I used to empty the system by undoing some pipes, take the rad out and clean that inside then run water through the rest of the system till it was more or less clear.
Put it all back together again, top up, run for a while to bleed out any air from the little bleed screw on the rad then seal it all up again
I think the op just means flushing the systme as in renewing it all, I hope
