Cooler for 4890

I've fitted loads of these coolers to 4850 and 4870 cards, worked a treat everytime. According to the akasa compatibility chart they'll fit the 4890 fine apparently. I'd double check first yourself for compatibility. Might be an idea to get a fan voltage adapter with it, they're about £3 and can reduce fan speed and make the neo even quieter. Ideally summat like zalman fanmate would be even better. Either of those two will give you a bit more flexibilty.

Thanks for your reply pieman, that's really useful.

I'd still be really interested to hear a 4890 owners view if anyone has done it? :)

I got the same setup, xfx 4890 xt with the akasa cooler. Noise wise, there's not much different between my 8800gts. I've the Antec 300 case and the pc is my living room, I can't hear anything when I'm watching TV. The only thing I didn't like about the cooler was that I can't control the speed of the fan because is power by the mobo not the graphic card.

Cheers for this info. I've got the same case and also run mine in the living room, so that's good to know! Think I will take pieman's advice and get a fan controller to go with it.

Are they easy enough to fit? Never replaced the cooler on a graphics card before.

Cheers

is very easy, 10 minutes job. I would use a fan controller but I know my 20 months old daughter will break it. She already broke 2 usb ports located in front of the case.

Fitted the Vortexx.

Temps are much the same, which I kinda expected anyway as they were pretty low in the first place (idle is around 45°).

Its sooo quiet by comparison to the stock cooler though. I haven't even bothered with the fanmate because even at full speed its a LOT quieter than 40% on the stock cooler.

Overall, I'm pretty happy :)

very good, so whats covering the vrm's and ram then??

The ram has some little thermal pads and then the heatsink sits directly onto them.

You'll have to excuse my ignorance, but I don't really know what VRM's look like or where they are on the card...

I'll try and post some pictures when I get a chance.
