Cooler for 8350

Just "upgraded" a 960T to a 8350 (real upgrade is probably that the 960T is heading towards another PC which has a 3-core phenom at present!) and currently using with existing freezer pro 64 that I've had for a few years.

Suspect that I do better with a new cooler (plus can use FP with 960T as that PC is currently using an AMD cooler). Any suggestions ... main proviso is my case probably doesn't have quite enough space for current generation of mega-coolers ... while changing CPU checked (using various columns of lego bricks!) and think there a most 160mm clearance between top of CPU and case ... and would want a few mm spare to avoid transmitting vibrations to the case.

Indeed.
Budget, RAM height and center CPU to PCI-E slot.

Alpenfohn K2 Mount Doom; AKA: Deep Cool Assassin, Gamer Storm Assassin is very good and for £49.99 is a very good deal. It is 140x128x158mm (WxDxH) w/o fans, 144x154x160mm w/ fans. Middle fan can be lowered some for clearance.

Matterhorn Pure is cheaper and is 138x123x158mm for £29.99

budget is probably about £30 mark. When thinking of getting an 83x0 I was think along the lines of getting an 8320 and spending the difference on a cooler but picked up the 8350 at £30 discoutn when it was on TO last week.

Distance from centre of CPU to PCI is ~10cm.

Had a look at some reviews of the Matterhorn Pure and that looks like a good option

Matterhorn should fit nicely

As a matter of interest, how do you think this cooler compares to the Gelid Rev. 2 Tranquillo performance wise ? I am currently runing one on my X6 1100T, and am wondering how it would cope with an 8350 if I was to do that upgrade. I note that the Gelid has just 4 heatpipes vs the 6 on the Matterhorn.

On one of the reviews the more expensive version of matterhorn was running only 2 degree cooler the tranquillo so I don't think pure would be better

Tranquillo and Matterhorn Pure are almost the same. Fan used determines which is best.

If you want more cooling the Alpenfohn K2 is probably your best choice.

Think the K2 is slightly too big for my case so will probably go for the Matterhorn though will wait a couple of days to see if anything turns up in TWO!
