Hi chaps.

I currently have a Corsair H100i which is around 5 years old. My current idle temps are averaging around 45-50 degrees. The cpu is already delidded and ive reappllied thermal past three times and still get around these temperatures.

Im wondering if it would be worth getting a new cooler for my cpu. Im wondering if my current cooler isnt quite as good as it used to be. The new cooler has to fit in my h440 case though.

Thinking of the Corsair H115i, NZXT Kraken or anything else. Just want the best that will fit in my H440 (From 2014 ish)

Thanks in advance

What are your load temperatures and what voltage is it using?

A delidded 8700k should be fine on your cooler, even a stock one I ran at 4.9 would only go to about 80deg on a 280mm AIO

Finally what did you use to delid it? Thermal paste or liquid metal?

Hi Finners. Hope this is better than me waffling on lol.

What case (and case fan setup), motherboard, RAM and cooler do you have?

99% of the time a good air cooler will cool as well or better and run as quiet or quieter as CLCs while costing less and lasting much longer. Knowing what you now have allow us to suggest coolers that will fit.

I use a Corsair H115i Platinum RGB Op and the ML 140 fans are fantastic. Able to run my 5960x @ 4.7ghz without issues. Run's 4.8ghz also but a bit toasty. If you use stock fans on the H100i you could change them to decent fans I guess. The H115i Plat is a fantastic cooler though. Used to use an EK Pred cooler and this gives me better results than that did, but these fans are very good. Having said all that doyll and finnars are a lot more experienced on these forums, just giving my own opinion and recommendations mate.

Question. Are you using the intel extreme tuning utility to overclock inside windows? If so, why not adjust things in the BIOS directly, at least you know then what's actually being adjusted.

I'd also try checking temps with something like HWmonitor or Coretemp. See what idle and load (use something like Prime95 non AVC version) temps are across the different cores.

CPU voltage looks quite high for 4.9 OC to me, especially for one that's been delidded! Though each CPU can be different I suppose (silicon lottery and all that). Mine (not delidded) does 4.9 all cores at 1.28v with mid level llc. Idle temps are around 24C across the cores, hitting 75/80C running VERY intensive test apps (EG. Intel Burn Test). During gaming, cores never go much above 50/55C. And this is "just" using a decent air cooler (noctua nh-u14s in push/pull).

PS. Note that CPU package temp is not the same as the CPU cores temps.

Your cooler should be handling that OK. Especially as you have delidded, can I ask though what you used between die and IHS? Paste or liquid metal?

I think @mikeo is along the right lines though, that voltage does look high for 4.9Ghz and if you are overclocking using "presets" or with software within Windows then this is likely why.

As others have said though there are numerous other factors to consider such as airflow as well.

Not that it's much of a reference, my delidded 8700K in an Enthoo Evolv ATX (read awful case for airflow) with a Noctua NH-D15 doing 4.8Ghz with 1.28v barely breaks through into the 70's.
Points to take from that are a drop of 100Mhz is a huge drop in voltage compared to yours and that my air cooling must be sub-optimal so my temps are likely a few degrees more than most anyway so if you have a decent cooler and air flow should in theory be in a better place than me..
