Cooler for a Ryzen 9950x

My new productivity PC uses the 9950x and I opted for the be quiet silent loop 3. I was going to go for the 360mm, but it was only £5 more for the 420mm and it fitted in the case. It is very quiet in use.

I went for the Asus PA602 case, predominantly for the 20Gbs front panel USB-C port and the 200mm fans which shift a lot of air and are very quiet. There’s a button on the front panel to put all the case fans to max which is handy at times if you are about to do some peak load work.

Idle temps are about 42C and it’s whisper quiet after adjusting the fan curve in the bios.

That’s just what I wanted to hear. Thanks very much. Any noise from the pump?

Nothing obvious or distracting, you would have to put your ear next to the case. My previous setup used a Corsair AIO and there was a constant hum from the pump when switched on which you could detect from about 10 feet away.

Located under my desk, the new setup is effectively silent in normal use. I have the fans set to zero until about 50 - 55C and ramping up from there.

Even after extended periods of high load use, I’m impressed how quickly temps drop back down.

I’ve since added 4 HDDs to my setup and the noise from those is louder than the case fans or AIO pump and fans combined. I’ll eventually remove those when I get a NAS which I’ll put in another room or even the loft.

That sounds great, awesome set up. I hadn’t looked at that Asus case before, looks a beast of a thing. Very tempted to go with it. The reviewers say that the front 200mm fans are very quiet, could you confirm this please?

Yes, the front 200mm fans are indeed very quiet in use. The instructions with the case aren't the best, but if you have built a few PCs before you can work it out.

Don't overspend on a cooler. Take a look at the excellent value for money Thermalright AIO's. I have the Thermalright Frozen Edge 240 on my 7800x3d and it's very quiet. I have the pump locked at 2600rpm which makes it totally silent and the fans are on the motherboards silent profile (set in the bios). During extended gaming sessions the cpu is in the low-mid 50's although during that hot spell it did creep up to 62 degrees but is back to normal now. Even during the hot spell the fans didn't ramp up much and were still very quiet. For the 9950x I would go for the 360mm version of the Thermalright Frozen Edge which is £52 for the black version or £45 for the white version. It does have very subdued ARGB around the top edge of the pump/block but nothing on the fans. It's a steal for the performance you get.

For air cooling the Thermalright Phantom Spirit with it's extra heatpipe is slightly better than the Peerless Assassin but like you I am not sure how it would get on with a 9950x. There's also a 140mm version of the Peerless Assassin now although I can only find it in white. It comes with a 120mm front fan for some reason and a 140mm second fan.
Hi there. I thought I would just give an update. I had some vouchers so I purchased the Thermalright frozen edge 360 for my own system to see what its like. I have to say, cooling performance is excellent but acoustics are terrible. The pump is audible until I set it to 30% in the bios. The fans are so bad, at slow speed they emmit a strange sound. I though it was the pump at first but no, its the fans. I took one off the rad and placed it on the desk. it makes a vibration noice until you pick it up, it then goes away. Very strange. Ive now moved my Noctua nfa 12's from intake fans on to the rad and put other fans as intake. The system is now practically silent.
I have contacted Thermalright about this issue but not heard back yet.

Strange as I have the 240mm version of that cooler and the fans and pump are dead silent. As I am running the motherboards silent profile my fans are only running at 790rpm and I have no noise from them at all. Yours does have the v2 version of the fans? It should state in the listing S-FDB2 v2 bearing, if not then you could have the v1 fans which were noisy and the reason they changed them. I would say that 30% for the pump is too slow, fix it at 2600rpm and it should still be silent. It could be air in the pump I suppose. Gently tilt the case around to give it a chance to get any air out of the pump. It could also be the case that you have got a dud which can happen with any manufacturer in whichh case I would return it for a replacement.

it is the v2 I have. Ive tried the pump at a load of different speeds and i can hear it until it drops to 30%. My CPU is idle at 32-35c and went up to 59c in game with an ambient room temp of 26c, so im happy with the cooling ability. The pump noise is odd because it changes when I touch the tubes, so its causing a vibration somewhere. I will upload a pic.

Well thermalright customer service were not very helpful. Told me that the fans and pump sound normal. No suggestions or anything useful, last email said "it is normal" great thanks lol.

Is that pipe touching the gpu backplate? If so could it be transmitting some sort of vibration to that? One difference between mine and yours is that I removed two of the three pipe clamps, not that it should make much, if any difference to noise, I just didn't like the look of them.

It is touching the back plate, I did wonder that. I might try removing the clips and see if I can move it a little. Cheers
