cooler for am3

The retail does come with a cooler, are you looking to overclock and what would your budget be.

The stock cooler is OK, it is reasonably quiet and temps are alright. If you aren't going to overclock then it will suffice, but if you are I'd suggest getting something else.

Ive got the Corsair H50 water kit with my 955 and I would reccomend it over any bulky aircooler. Got mine easily overclocked to 3.7Ghz and 100% cpu is about 55c which is tad warm but im running 2 nvidia cards which im using temporary and they both sit @ 80c and kick air into the case so its not ideal but when i finally get one of the new ati cards im sure it will be a bit lower :D
btw my stock cooler was really loud as I used it on an old motherboard i had fits most older Amd sockets which was handy but it dont half make a racket :D

Push and pull system knocks about 8c off temps and I used a space saving idea as the pipes are quite long and put the fan on the outside with a grill so I dont stick me fingers in the fan :D

I will prob fiddle later with more overclocking but i dont need anymore power this thing runs my games while running boink on full :D

The Fan that comes with it is fairly quiet, but im gonna change it soon as it doesnt run very fast and you can apparently lower temp by buying a decent 120mm fan like the apache that kicks about 57CFM of air.
It was quieter than my asus silent night when i first installed thats for sure. my mates seemed to like how quiet it was so its pretty good. 1 fan will prob be fine but for overclocking the dual fan setup decreases temps a lot but then it increases the noise a tad. un touched it should sit around 29 -30c depending on airflow etc mine was a few degrees higher

I went for it on the basis that its smaller and less bulky than some of these monster aircoolers that can block parts of board ect. worth it imho :D

edit: but a pain to install :D recommend a friend helps lol and i used my own paste as the stuff applied was bit too much and i also lowered temps a bit by doing that. it uses a twist and tighten bracket which u got to make sure you tighten it just enough so you can twist the bayonet so it dont pop out while you tighten the screws. My first attempt failed and I ended up having to apply the paste again :(
