OK, so my E6600 media centre is running rock steady at 3.1GHz, on the stock fan/cooler. :)

Trouble is, She Who Must Be Obeyed says it's too loud

It is running in a relatively low-profile old desktop case, which just fits the gap one of my old Laserdisc players used to sit in, so a huge tall thing is right out.

Can you nice folks recommend a fairly low-profile, quiet setup, that is no worse than the stock HSF?

(No, H20 is not an option :D )

How about one of the Zalmans, something like a CNPS8700-LED? they're pretty quiet and low profile. LOL, beat me to it.

LOL my lass told me that mine was too loud, I was like give me the money for H2O, and after I told her the price she's never mentioned it again :D

Lucky you :)

When I explained H20 to Anne, she asked what the price was, and then suggested something rather painful! :o

Thanks for the advice guys, I forsee a Zalman turning up in the post fairly soon :D

Will the Zalman CNPS8000 fit in a Gigabyte GA_P35_DS3P?

That's a good point - the arctic freezer 7 pro on my Quad beast only just fits, with the huge chipset heatsink, and from the figures on the Zalman site here the Zalman is 1mm wider

Anyone out there actually tried it?

No pics atm, it's just a generic desktop case saved from a clearout at work :)

Doesn't look like case space is a problem, just the space on the motherboard.

Ah well. I'll see if I can sort a pic and some measurements

The EnzoTech Ultra-X is the best low profile cooler you could possibly get however the problem is trying to buy one in the UK as no one sells them here or even in Europe. In the end, I bought mine from the US :p

Here you are, one dodgy photo :D

Wait! Maybe your problem isn't the HSF but the case? Does it have 80mm (stock) fans? If so, you could try changing to some low RPM ones?

Alternative is a new case with good airflow meaning also, the CPU cooler will run quieter. Suggest this ;)

The case has 2 60mm feeble fans on the back, that don't make much noise, or move much air :)

But the Zalman 8000 that arrived in the post at work this morning fits comfortably, and makes much less noise for slightly lower temps :D

So Zalman 8000 + P35C-DS3R gets a thumbs up from me!

<edit>That looks like the sort of case I could do with, but if I buy any more technopron this month, I'll be guest of honour at a funeral - mine! :p
