I'm in the process of buying an upgrade after my E6600 or motherboard died, so after much deliberation I'm forced to spend lots of money I can't afford on an upgrade. I'm going for an i5 2500K with an MSI P67A-GD65.
The problem I have is to cool the cpu, I'm not fussed with overclocking yet. I assume the retail version comes with the stock cooler? I've been using that on my E6600. I have the oldest case ever, the Chieftec dragon midi tower. I've measured from the cpu to the outside of the case, I've got about 165-170mm. All the tower coolers I have looked at are pretty much this size, but i always thought my case was pretty huge so is it normal for these tower coolers to be pretty much touching the sides? Will this affect cooling at all? I know my case is pretty bad nowadays but i cant afford to replace that along with the rest.
Would it be better to stick with the stock cooler if i'm not oc'ing until i can afford a new case, or are there any decent coolers that would be worth the money that could actually fit without worrying.
