got a new build on and im unsure which cpu and cooler for it ive settled on either a E5200 or E5300 as there is only £12 difference between them which would i be better going for i do plan on overclocking it

also which cooler would you recommend for it ive read that the Akasa AK 965 is good for either chip....any ideas?

I would get the E5200, its a great chip for OCing and you wont get much more by having a higher multiplier from the E5300, and saving £12 will pay for an akasa 965, which is what I would recommend as you said. Used it twice on that chip and its really good, cool and quiet!

If you get a R0 stepping E5200 you should hit 4Ghz as most seem capable of at least that. If it's a M0 stepping it's hit and miss as to what you get. Some max out at a poor 3.2Ghz, more common is 3.6-3.75Ghz. Very few hit 4Ghz. The E5300 and the extra .5x multiplier is only going to get you an extra 150mhz or so.

The Akasa is more than enough for one of these. It's an excellent cooler that put's some much more expensive ones to shame.

I've just put an Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro on my E5200 which is pretty much identical to the Akasa and it's dropped my temps massively, even when running at a third of the speed of the standard intel cooler.

I was deliberating between the 2 but went for the Freezer 7 as this review here said the Freezer 7 is marginally better (mainly due to noise).
