Cooler for Q9550

go with the true black, was what I was about to recommend.

Don't forget a 120mm fan (or two in push-pull). I'd go with a Noctua NF-S12 1200rpm

But be aware that these are about the best coolers around, but may need lapping.

What's happened to the TRUE's? I want to get one myself, but Overclockers have been out of stock of them for at least a week :(

Thanks and sorry, I'm new to this and don't understand all of your advice.
You buy the true but I need 2 fans as well ? ...whats lapping

Lapping your CPU heatsink means to sand it down to make sure the surface that comes into contact with the CPU itself is perfectly flat. Some people do this with their CPU's as well to ensure the best possible contact between the CPU and heatsink.

The cooler is very good, but doesn't come with a fan attatched.

You can put one on it, which will do a good job, or put one either side (one blowing into the cooler, one pulling air out) which will do a very good job

lapping is sanding the base of the cooler to make it perfectly flat, to ensure the best contact with the cpu (which you may also need to lap) it's not 100% necessary, but it will reduce temperatures.

Oh right, a bit of work in that, I would think, and I would think if its not done correct, it would end up worse.

I just rang OC UK and ask when do you expect the TRUE to be in stock next.
The guy asked, are you overclocking, I said no, if your not overclocking the The Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro might be an option, ????
I would like to order something soon but don't know about the The Freezer 7 Pro.

You know, the TRUE Black would fit my case and I have a unopened Antec 120mm fan.
Would this fan suite?

Just out of curiosity which of these coolers would you pick.
True Black 120
Noctua NH-U12P
Zalman CNPS9500

Thanks in advance.

Guys the true blacks not in stock and I want to order in the morning, what other would you order, Noctua NH-U12P, Zalman CNPS9500 or.....

Noctua is almost on par with the True. Comes with a decent fan and Thermal paste.
A good choice. Although I have the TRUE black and it is awsome once lapped.

Matt

Thanks Matt, I think I would have went for the TRUE, but not in stock, so Noctua is next in line.

Thanks for all the advice and my Noctua NH-U12P arrived this morning.(true black still out of stock)

Any tips as to installing it on my Q9550 CPU and Gigabyte GA-X48-DQ6 MB

Thanks in advance.
