Hello. I've been doing some research on a new rig for about 3 months now. I'm going to be using it for gaming and music production. I've been researching for 3 months as I want to make sure I'm spending my £1000 to the best that I can.

The spec below is finally what I've decided to buy! :) But seeing as I'm going to be using this computer for long periods of time, I was just wondering if I'll need a cooler? Just as a side note, I won't be doing any overclocking, not sure if this helps you...

Here is my spec:

HD-078-SE Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 320GB ST3320620AS SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM (HD-078-SE)
£59.95 £59.95

GX-044-CO Connect3D ATI Radeon X1800 XT 256MB GDDR3 AVIVO TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (GX-044-CO)
£125.99 £125.99

Subtotal £837.80
VAT £146.62
Total £984.42

This is what it lists for the Antec Sonata II case I'm going to buy:

- 1 x rear 120mm Tricool fan (standard) with 3-speed control to balance quiet with cooling
- 1 x front 120mm case fan (optional) 25mm thick
- 1 x 92mm fan (optional) in the air duct to cool the CPU
- 1 x 80mm fan (optional) for graphics cards

Would this case be OK or would you recommend getting some kind of cooler?

Thank you so much for your help!

Many kind regards,
-Alex.

If you plan to do any overclocking, (which i highly suggest with a e6300) there are a few thing you want to change.

Firsty i would get the gigabyte ds3 mobo.

Also if you want higher clocks you will need some faster ram, i would go with the 2gb geil ultra. See here for mre info.

A decent heatsink would be on my list aswell, scythe ninja or artic freezer 7 pro.

I would also scrap getting a raptor. They are not that much fast and costafortuna!

You also dont have a separate sound card which i would have thought would be important for music production.

EDIT: i didn't read you didnt want to overclock. So ignore most of my advice :(

Hey thanks for both of your replies!

With regards to the Raptor, when I enquired a few months ago people suggested that I get a Raptor for Operating System and Music Software such as Cubase SX, and use the Seagate for games etc... So this is why I chose the Raptor.

Would you suggest another Hard Drive which is more suitable than the Raptor?

And I'm going to be buying a seperate Sound Card later when I have a bit more cash! :)

Kind regards,
-Alex.

Scrap the Raptor and get another Seagate and you will have enough money left over for an X-Fi Extreme Music :)

A few months ago the Raptor was the daddy, now it is just an expensive alternative to a Seagate 7200.10. Granted it is faster than the Seagate but not by much, and you also have to spend A LOT of money and forfeit A LOT of space for the luxury of that extra speed.
