Well I just attempted to install a Coolermaster TX3 into my case, now the sole reason for getting this cooler was for the push pins so I could (theoretically) install it in a few minutes and have the potential for a modest overclock over the stock cooler.

Now for some reason, the cooler just wouldn't install. Whether this is me tripping or the actual problem remains a mystery, but on closer inspection the pins did not line up with the holes on the motherboard. It's a standard 1156 setup and I've screwed the pins on with the empty hole facing outwards as per the instructions, however no joy at all. When the pins were pressed down, one faced inwards and one would not go down at all.

Now I really have two choices here, either;

1) Try and sort this cooler out and attempt another installation, possibly causing more pain and the same result as I have now.

2) Get over my laziness and sell this cooler on for a small loss and invest in a proper cooler. Advantage of this is that I can finally manage my cables and make a day of it.

Anyone had similar issues with this cooler or can advise what to do? This really hasn't been an area I've had luck with. Out of the three after market coolers I've bought, one went on but was about the same as stock, one killed my motherboard and now this one is refusing to go down. :P

Cheers! :D

I hate push pin coolers personally. I would go for something that use's a backplate mounting which is far more secure. Means taking your motherboard out mind but you but worth the effort. These are the sort of coolers I would go for myself....

Im not saying you should buy one of these coolers but if I were you that's exactly what I would do ;)

The only 3rd party cooler that has been a success was a Gelid Silent Spirit, which was barely better than stock. Other than that, an Arctic 7 low profile, which my method of using a screwdriver to push the pins in not paying off at all. :P

Thanks for the suggestions, the Titan tempts me simply because it's a cheap performer. However, do you think a H50 would be worth investing in? I'm not purely looking for a cooler for a 4ghz overclock, however that would be nice. But if I need to take the motherboard out, I'd like it to be worthwhile.

Currently hiding everything away in a CM690 case, clearance seems like it could be an issue with taller air coolers, any confirmation on that?

Thanks. ;)

the H50 is quite highly thought of. performs very similar to high end air cooling from what i believe. cm690 case here too but not sure what clearance you need-you'll have to get the measuring tape out i'm afraid :p unless some1 else jumps in with more advice.

Yeah, the only clearance I'd need theoretically is for a fan on the slot over the cpu socket, however I'm assuming with a good enough cooler that fan would become pretty much obsolete.

I'm leaning towards holding out with a turboboost of 2.8 on pretty much everything on the stock cooler and investing in a H50. Although it's a funny one, I would get the Noctua cooler (don't recall the name, the massive one) but I don't like the idea of all that metal hanging over my graphics card. Yet, I'm willing to invest in a system which is essentially pipes filled with water. :D

i hear what your saying, when i fitted the hyper212 i remember lifting my pc upright and saying a rather large amount of prayers that the screws would hold!! but in all honesty the back plate held coolers are sturdy and very stable-assuming you've fitted everything correctly, and as for water cooling, well that just plain terrifies me!! lol

in fairness tho i haven't ever read or come across any stories regarding the h50 leaking.
