So I just installed my new cooler, this is the first time I have done this. It all works fine and the results are good etc but I was wondering, when I placed it on the CPU, I had to move it about a bit to line the screws up. Will this have an effect on the thermal paste?

As long as you didnt spend 5 minutes moving it around as all the paste would have been spread out from the centre, you really want an even pressure to spread the paste.

I took my cooler off to inspect the thermal paste spread, i intentionally rotated it within the bracket before i removed it again, all the thermal paste was missing in the centre and got pushed to the sides so not a good idea to move more than needed.

if you kept taking the cooler off and then on then yea replace the thermal paste.

when i installed my cooler it slid about till i could screw it down but the temps are bang on.

check temps with a stress test, if the temps are fine then dont bother.
