I was over budget so i was thinking for settling for this is artic silver 5 thermal compound worth the extra money or should i use the one that comes with it

Rather than getting the tx3 and then as5 on top, try stretching to the thermalright hr-02 macho or the TRUE Spirit 140 which are currently on sale. They are vastly better, quieter and come with better thermal paste than as5.

Should be much better than the tx3 but I'd still go for the macho or TRUE spirit 140.

These are BIG.

The macho is like a giant cube, the TS 140 is well over 160mm tall.

The TS120 would be my choice in the £25 range. I have the MUX-120 Black, same thing tarted up.

You shouldn't need thermal paste with a decent cooler.

I think you mean you don't need to buy thermal paste because it is supplied with decent coolers.

The macho isn't too big really. The ts140 is tall though.

One review compred the TS120 to the Macho, and the macho wasn't better.

In any case, the TS120 is the best £25 cooler all round. the TS140 if you have lots of headroom in the case (iirc, between 165 to 170mm). It's a really nice cooler, looks ugly and requires room, but it performs wonders, is cheap, and very quiet. Both are no-nonsense, well built and cheap. In general the Thermalright range is well worth a look (SilverArrow, Archon), especially their evolutions of their old tower design (MUX-120, True Spirit 120, True Spirit 140, Ultra 120, True Black, Venomous X).

There are plenty of good coolers around anyway. 612S, Matterhorn Pure, Hyper 212 Evo, ... Any of these will really out-perform a TX3 by quite a margin.

TS120 is much small with less heatpipes than HR-02... and in the world of coolers size & pipe count does matter.

All in all, it's all a balance between size, performance, price. The HR-02 is a big moffo.

Thanks. They all perform about the same until high overclocking pushes more heat at them.

TS 140 = 155x53x70mm . 155x79x170mm w/fan
HR-02 = 140x102x162mm. 140x128x162mm w/fan
TS 120 = 133x52x160mm. 133x78x160mm w/fan

Difference is approx 50mm front to back.. otherwise very similar.
