Cooler master V10

Yeah the V8 is a very well recommended cooler as well, and looks cool if you have a case with a window and are into the bling side of things. (I can't even see mine cause it's all under the desk - d'oh!)

Oh, and Ninja! I like the 500 comment! lol;)

TEC's generate a lot of heat all on their own!!

Which is why the V10 is so enormous.

TECs have a somewhat dubious reputation because of their poor implementations throughout overclocking history. They do, when set up and used properly, perform very well and allow for some serious overclocking. However, people who rush their set-up, get it wrong and then complain it either doesn't perform very well or fritzes their system don't do TECs any favours.

Somebody else tried a TEC-based air cooler around five years ago, which was spectacularly rubbish. At the time, Gibbo said an air-based TEC cooler was a silly idea and he was right (OcUK still stocked it due to apparent popular demand, IIRC)...

Buy a TRUE and a decent fan.

TEC only makes sense of you know what you are doing and have a water cooled set up. A decent TEC can generate an ADDITIONAL 200W or so of heat to be dealt with! (dont think the V10 would though!)

The V10 does claim to offer an 200W of cooling power...
lol @ ninja, I was wondering if you means V8 good => V10 better. Now I see we agree after all.

I'm quite taken with the idea of peltiers at the moment. I've done a lot of research on them from the overclocking perspective in the last few days, and will track down some solid state reports on them soon. One of the interesting parts is that they need a fairly specific clamping force to function well, and I'm not sure why this is yet.

More inclined to make a water chiller using them than to fix one directly to the processor, but haven't yet made up my mind how I feel about condensation. A potentially very good use of them is to keep the temperature of a watercooling loop at ambient when the radiators connected to the loop aren't capable of doing so. But we shall see.

Also I must admit there is a major factor in how I achieved my 4ghz....

you see it's summer where I live and instead of having the heat on, it's now the a/c. I have gotten same temps now with the 4 as I did with the 3.8. I still feel like my place could be colder but my wife would not allow it :D

EDIT: it's 75 in my house btw...before it was 80c in the winter time

I was talking about the additional heat generated by the TEC alone not the cooling power! This is why air cooled TEC's seem a bit daft you are adding yet more heat to be disapated by the air cooler! With water you can take this excess heat away more efficiently with the benefits of sub ambient cooling on the cold side of the TEC

if your looking at the v10 your verging on a cheap water setup and then it looks pretty weak for its price and running costs. Air or water chose, tec is just an added expense that is not worth it, especially an air cooled tec.
