If you had to choose between the two, tell me why please.

XFX Pro Series Black Edition 850
Cooler Master V850

  • I can get the XFX and the CM V850 for the same price at the momen
  • XFX and CM are based on KM3 Seasonic platforms.
  • The XFX/CM have good plug layouts for my needs based on cable lengths and management, though I'd prefer the CM V850 for it's standard SATA molex connectors as opposed to the Berg on the XFX.
  • The XFX has a hybrid fan mode (though I get the impression that really that's hit or miss and a good quality fan/fan profile by the manufacturer is better than a hybrid setup.
  • CMV850 seems to be just one slight step below the Corsair AX860/860i range in terms of load balancing, and other nerdy specs - in short, it's a great performer, I suspect the XFX Is not far off however I couldn't find any review that gave me an understanding of the two's performance relatively speaking.

If it came down to the XFX and CM, which would you go with?

EDIT: I know of the Corsair AX860/860i and the EVGA Supernova G2. Though cannot see them being worth the difference in cost.

Have had my CM 850 PSU for over seven years now, currently powering the OC'd rig in sig, along with 5 HDD's, 1 optical drive, 9 LED fans plus a few USB devices and it's still giving stellar performance.

It's also totally quiet in operation.

If the current CM PSU's are made as well as mine is, then I'd be getting them all day long.

Thanks for the comments. Gentle reminder, I suspect there's some stark differences between your model and the newer V series. Was KM3 out back then?

As they are very similar internally due to them both being based on the same platform, I would go for the Coolermaster for their customer service. XFX had built up a reputation for abysmal customer service up until recently. Not sure if it's still the case but it's enough to make me think twice about buying their products.

If you are going for the Coolermaster then be quick as they are doing a Corsair and swapping to a different OEM (Enhance). The V series 700w has already been replaced by a new 750w model built by Enhance and the rest of the models are following suit soon. Enhance has been rather hit or miss in the past with regards to being able to deliver a decent unit so if you want a Seasonic built unit then buy it now and don't wait too long.

Thank you for the heads-up. I will make sure to decide soon.

Well I'll add a twist to the tale, by vouching for XFX. I've had two of their PSUs previously and both did their job without any hiccups.

As for customer service, I haven't had to RMA luckily but they replied within a day when I made an inquiry.

Also +1 for not only internal quality thanks to Seasonic but also the units themself are well made.

This is all of course assuming you haven't decided already, only just noticed the date you posted :p
