Cooler replacement for 4870x2

Hi chaps,

Basically, I'm sick of the incredible amount of heat being kicked out by my 4870x2. My PC sits in a fairly confined space and even during winter I just find playing on it offputting enough to not bother. So I'm wondering whether anyone can recommend an alternative which runs significantly cooler? I realise that it's likely I won't get the same performance out of a smaller/cooler card, but at this stage I'm happy to sacrifice some for the difference in heat...

I'd wait for the new ATI 69xx range, but I'm sure they'll be just as hot

Look up the accelero extreme (the 4870x2 version!). It's basically about the only 'air' option out there. Be careful with the screws they supply make sure they are the right length or you could crush a core (as originally they supplied one's that were too short).

Yep accelero extreme is a good cooler i have one on mine and my temps droped from 90 idle ad 95 load to 27 idle and 50 load.. quite a massive differance.

Bear in mind it's a 3 slot cooler. Best place to look with stock is an famous auction site. (which I cannot name here sorry - I do not believe OcUK stock these items btw).

Alternatively, if you want a quick solution then just change the core and memory clocks. Works a treat. A clean works wonders, too.
