cooler without the dreaded push pins

Hi Guys

I am just building a new rig and am having real problems getting the Freezer 7 pro to fit. I can't get the push pins to work, if i get 2 in the others won't fit. Is there a good after market cooler that doesn't use push pins?
 
2 questions first, what's your budget and your spec?

There are many many very good CPU coolers out there that don't use push pins
 
I have the newe Asus P8Z68 -V Pro mobo with i5 2500k cpu. I don't want to go mad on a cooler but the stock one is running too warm at 61c.
 
Them push pins have got to be the most stupid idea Ive ever come across. Ive broken 3 stock coolers doing that. The one on my chip now is hanging off but still works with high temps.

Noctua ones are good. Most decent ones dont use them.

Find one in budget and Google the name and put pictures at the end and take a look

I used to use the Freezer 7 in my E8400 PC, (which my son now has) and like the OP, i too had issues trying to install the cooler properly. Its a capable cooler, just very very fiddly to install.

The Thermaltake Frio on the other hand was IMO easy to fit, it can be fiddly.

Temps are awesome aswell.
 
The annoying thing is the stock cooler push pins work fine but the Freezer 7 Pro are a nightmare especially on a rocking/pivoting mounting arms. I don't need to overclock to a great level if at all, i just want a reasonably priced cooler to keep my cpu cool. Or is 61c when only in bios normal?

61c in BIOS IMO is not great. Like another poster has said the Gelid Tranquillo CPU Cooler is awesome and at 26 quid its an awesome price for the performance you get.
 
61c in the bios I would say is unsafe. Any load and it will push it into the limits of the chip.

Theyre a massive pita but I say persevere and try to get it mounted properly as it should last you a while.
 
My wife (bless her) has just used her little fingers and got the frezzer 7 pro mounted and it is now showing 49c at idle in bios. Anyone got an idea what the temps should be?
 
My Freezer 7 has been on and off half a dozen times without an issue. What's the problem you're actually having with the pins?
 
I found the Freezer Pro Rev 2 to be extremely easy to fit and have taken mine off five or six times in the last couple of weeks, without any problems whatsoever.
