Hi all

I was gifted the following items:

Coolermaster Elite 110
MSI Z87I AC Motherboard

I want to complete the build but have little to no experience building SFF PCs.

It is to be used primarily for office use (with image editing (Lightroom, Photoshop)) but would also like some light gaming (currently playing a lot of Elite dangerous).

My budget is around £600 and that is to include a monitor, keyboard and mouse!

Many thanks in advance for any help, as usual.

Stephen

That';s great, thank you.

Added to basket.

Any other pointers with regards to the other components would be most appreciated

All the best

There are plenty of GPUs available in short form factor, from the GTX 970 downwards. Some examples:

Asus Mini 970 - £281.99
Gigabyte 750 Ti - £119.99
MSI Radeon 260 - £89.99
Sapphire R9 285 - £199.99

In all cases performance is proportional to price.

As you'll be doing image editing, I suggest going for 16 GB RAM rather than 8 GB. This will set you back £90-£100.

With regard to the monitor I would suggest an IPS or VA monitor rather than TN due to the better colour rendition.

Dell P2414H - £199.99
Dell U2412M - £215.99

Mouse & keyboard are very personal affairs, but I would urge you to not stint on the mouse, keyboard, and monitor, even at the expense of the GPU. I've used a lot of keyboards in my time and the best one I've used at home is my current Ducky Shine 3, which cost around £100, but the second best was a £5 no-name keyboard from ASDA. I also use a trackball rather than a mouse, but you might find a pen & tablet useful for image editing.

That's great, Quartz.

Thank you for taking the time out to do that.

I'm not being lazy here but it's been a good while since I've done a build.

Can you recommend a fairly decent CPU / Memory set?

Thanks again!

With everything you want, your budget is going to be badly broken.

Geil memory - £89.99 for 16 GB.
Intel i5-4690K - £187.99.
Windows 8.1 64 bit - £77.99
Samsung external DVD drive - £21.99
1 TB HDD (your choice of brand) - under £50.

I'll let someone else recommend a PSU.

You should also consider a Radeon R7 265 or R9 270, which should be under £120.

You can save £50 by dropping to 8 GB RAM, and another £50 by dropping to an i3 CPU.

Are you sure you cannot move stuff from your existing PC?

The R9 285 does quite well in OpenCL benchmarks(and Adobe is moving increasing over to OpenCL) and they can be had for under £150 now.

Edit!

£200 for a R9 285 is way to much though.

This is the ITX version - the full length cards are cheaper.

Id get this, comes in at £597 has everything you need/want.

Edit: I think the msi 750ti is too long, this is 170mm so will leave plenty of room, it puts you about £13 over budget.http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-252-EA&groupid=701&catid=1914&subcat=1854
