Further to a previous thread i started on here last week about Q6600 VIDs. I am "borrowing" a Q6600 from work with a VID of 1.28 as opposed to mine which is 1.325 (i am trying to achieve an OC of 3.6 but can only get to 3.4).

As i had the processor sat on the desk next to me, and i had some spare time, and a maintenance department just down the corridor, i borrowed some wet and dry and have lapped the new processor before putting it in.

I only have Coolermaster HTK-002 High Performance Thermal Compound at the momenant. Can i just use this stuff when i put the chip back in, is it any good??? Or should i bite the bullet and get some AS5????

If the coolermaster is any good i will just use this stuff as it means i can do the swap tonight, Other than that i have to wait till the weekend.

Please let me know your thoughts

Thanks

Craig

It will do and you can always replace it later anyway.

MX-2 is now the dogs ******** and a few degrees better than AS5 so if you are buying some, get the MX-2 instead. It has the other bonus of not needing to be "bedded" in over time like AS5 needed to be.

I think that if the processor and HSF are well lapped, the difference between the best thermal compound, and just a good one will be smaller. As said, you could always change the compund later.

And after having used both, Id say go for the MX-2 over the AS5 also.

Thanks guys, will try the new processor out with the coolermaster stuff tonight, but if i have any issues will have to get something better
