I really need to get a replacement heatsink so i can start OCing and have just seen that the V8 has £15 off it so its £42.99.
I was originally going to get the Thermalright TRUE Black Ultra-120 eXtreme as this is £42 but now im not sure because i've heard a lot of good things about the V8, that fact it comes with a built in fan is also a bonus as it means i dont need to buy fans. I have also just read this:
I would get a V8 because I have more confidence in its base. You probably know that the entire Thermalright ultra 120 extreme series is known for its bases which aren't flat at all. I have one myself and I can tell ya, it's true

So yeah, which would y'all go for?

Thanks,

Flare.

well its up to you, I ll be tempeted by the true black but in order to pull me to the V8 I ll need to see review vs the V8, in fact I ll look it up...the V8 is huge as well isnt it ?

I personally would go for the TRUE, atleast then you HAVE to choose a fan of your choice, depends how much you want to spend I guess.

not sure if you have to take the mobo out to mount the V8, you do for the true I know that

Yes you do, and, you probably will not be able to use a removable mobo tray in a mid tower either. I should know, I have a v8. I can tell you it is awesome. I'm running stable at 3.85ghz on i7 920 and my idle temps are just below 50c on each individual core (35c overall temp) and never reaches 80c in prime95. I just bought a silverstone 120mm fan for rear exhaust and as big as the v8 is it should give me a push pull effect. I'll update to let you know what my temps are when I install it tonight.

btw, you can put a different fan in the v8 for those who don't like the stock one but it pushes 60cfm so it's not a bad fan. The v8 DOES come with 1366 instructions though they are not needed because other reviewers previously said that it didn't.

och 80c seems a little High lol, can you back off the voltage a bit? set the GTL ? and stuff like that I have that problem with my OCZ ventta 2 as you probley know lol

well actually they never hit 80. they are more like 74c (per core) when all 8threads are maxed with prime95. Under everyday use (by me) this would never happen (all 8 threads maxed). Believe me I have tried to. Prime95 is the only thing that will. the max I have ever seen any core during my normal use is 61c. These temps are pretty normal on air. Factors like room temp, and case fans will also make a difference. The overall cpu temp ranges from 35c-47c during everyday use. Remember that core temps will be higher but mine are still well within range.

mined idling at 45c around that maxing at 73c...but i think my cases fans are not good enough for its size...its like huge and they are like well I can do a better job with a strew ;(

Added silverstone rear exhaust fan 120mm, 110cfm and cpu temps dropped 4c to 31 idle, but really it helps out a lot more during high loads. Here is a screen shot. I could easily go to 4Ghz. I will tweak it and post a screen of that tomorrow sometime. but here is current settings I have been running straight for 1 week no probs.

Thanks for the help guys :)

I think when i have the cash i might go for the V8 purely for the fact its newer and its different. I know that neither is much better than the other.
And the V8 does look pretty f'in sweet!
it will also work out the cheaper which is always good =D

Thanks fellas :D
