For a cheap upgrade i bought a 3ghz processor

http://processorfinder.intel.com/Details.aspx?sSpec=SL79L

The cooler i have is really not up to the job, it was fine with the 2.6ghz cpu i had over clocked to 2.9 but it idles at over 50 degrees now lol :)

Any recommend a cheap cooler thats up to the job of a prescott?

Obviously its old hat technology so wasting money on a new cooler on a old cpu would be annoying.

I assume buying one of the genuine intel h/s/f off the bay that say they are off a p4e are not good?

Anyone have any ideas?

Looks its up the job i think???

I was looking at the reviews on the site and awards but it seems they have been a bit cheeky and used the articooling freezer 7 reviews in some cases makinh it confusing..

I do need a freezer pro 7 so may just get these 2 items

iI just wanna be sure it will cool this prescott cpu(3ghz) i ws hoping to oc it a bit but the heat is intense

EDIT do i need a intel bracket thing as my asus p4ce deluxe doesnt have 1?

The freezer 4 will do the job perfectly, and in relative quiet too. I had the same processor as you with this cooler and got low to mid 40s.

You shouldn't need any other brackets as it just clips on to the fitting on the motherboard, which should be black plastic and has little rails for the cooler fitting arms to hook around?

Right sort of price?

Is it up to the job of a 3ghz prescott the heat these throw out quite surprised me tbh

I had it on a 3 GHz Prescott oc'd to 3.6GHz - temps were between 46 and 50 degrees at full load (depending on ambient temp) running F@H 24/7 for over a year.

No you see the black plastic is the intel retention clip............the h/s/f i use on it just clip to the cpu surround.

Hmmm have to get one from some where i guess?

As far as I know, which might not be very far, admittedly ;), you don't need any other bits apart from that which is already fitted to the motherboard and the fan and fittings itself?

Unless, you've got a cooler on there at the moment which has necessitated removal of the fan mount bracket from the board of course? In other words, it's missing the original Intel Retention Module?

Check out the install instructions in the following link.

Buy the Freezer 4 first before you try to source the bracket, you'll probably be pleasantly surprised! ;)

He's right, the Freezer 4 clips onto the same surround as the stock hsf.

Stan :)

Used a Freezer 4 with a P4 3.2 Prescott and it performed very well compared to the stock intel cooler. Clips onto the standard bracket that should come with your motherboard.

Can't imagine ever getting great overclocks with a prescott just because they make so much heat, but I never tried to overclock my P4 so I dunno for sure.

I did mention mine doesnt have the intel retention clip so will have to source one as mine was bought off mm from here, it had loads of leads and other stuff though...........hmm wonder where ill find one!

Edit oh and thanks guys:)

Hello Gavin!

I used a Zalman CNPS9500 with it, it did an extremely good job at cooling it! It idled around 30-32*C and just sat at 45*C load.

I would highly recommend this cooler if you are intending to overclock!

Josh

EDIT - It does need the bracket though, if all brackets are the same on every motherboard, i can send you one for free, as i have one on a redundant motherboard!

Went for the Artic cooling one in the end..........

clocked the cpu to 3.3 and its idles at 40 and hits just under 60 on full load............

im happy with that for now.

Cheers guys
