My mum has a shuttle XPC and the fan on the CPU cooling is driving her mad.

I have put a quieter akasa oone in but its still louder than my TJ with 8 fans in!

The problem is the mobo does not 'seem' to have a standard layout for coolers. It looks to rectangular to me.

Anyone have any experiance at changing the coolers on these?

Cheers guys

i presume its with the pipes as cooling?
if so yeh - its a pain to do , the best you got is a fan replacement or go wate with an external addon (again a pain)

I think I will get a Zalman northbridge fanless cooler to stick to the top of the shuttle CPU plate. If I add a spotcool to this should help loads. Or I might mount a thin scythe fan on the roof to help airflow.

I've got a Shuttle SK22G2 and it is virtually silent (quieter than my laptop) even under 100% CPU load. Only noise is from GFX fan as its close to side of case.

A couple of things to check.

It isn't gfx card fan if fitted.
Latest BIOS. I had an SN85G2 where the fan sounded like an aircraft taking off. Update Sorted.
Ensure Smart Fan is set in BIOS.
Run SpeedFan to see if you have any unusual high temps.
Check radiator element. They get very dusty.
Did you use supplied thermal paste? Try reapply of Artic Silver.

For comparison Athlon X2 4600+ GPU 40C, CPU Idle 27C 100% both cores 53C with FAN 1 = 2600 RPM.

Hi

Using on board graphics.
I might try updating the Bios as I have always left it alone.
Smart fan is on.
Radiator is clear with no dust build up.
Used AS5.

I have run speed fan and its not running hot. I have tried to change the fan and its still noisy.
Have ordered a Zalman northbridge flower cooler which I am going to 'cobble' onto the top of the CPU plate that the 3 heat pipes come from. As the fan is right next to it the air will naturally be drawn over it helping with the temps.

If I get a chance I will run it under load without the flower, then with and post some pics, IF I get a chance as mad busy with work :)
