Cooling an R9 290

Hello!

I'm on the fence about buying an R9 290 reference card, or going for MSI's Twin Frozr which is out this weekend.

The price difference is about £50, so I'm just wondering if I can achieve the same level of cooling via other means?

What GPU cooler would I be able to mount on the 290? If I go liquid, it'll be the first time I put anything under water so it'll be the GPU only at this point.

Any ideas?

If you're going air cooling, get a non-reference card. You'll have a decent cooler that is quieter and will stop the card throttling it's performance due to a high thermal load.

If you're going to whip the cooler off and put it under water, then you want the cheapest cooler, which are the reference ones. You'll pay less for the card.

Thanks for the reply.

I've just done a bit of research and a water block alone will set me back £75, much more than I'd be willing to pay, especially when I factor in the price of a rad, fans, pump, reservoir and control gear.

Someone could make a mint by manufacturing affordable cooling components!

I'll wait out a non-reference cooler then, thanks once again!
