Hey all, first post so if i miss anything, lemme know.

Bought the Dell XPS 420 for £400 last year (bargain with the thought of upgrading some parts such as gfx card)

Spec:

Dell Inc
Model 0TP406
Q6600 2.4ghz
8Gb RAM
HIS 5770 Gfx card
Vista 64x
500Gb HDD
375w Dell's finest (sarcasm)

Anyways, whilst i bought the HIS version of 5770 due to its cooling ability, the temps on the card just touchs 75deg on full load (unless i put the fan on 100% which is like its about to take off, goes to 70).

I really wanted to drop this down so i bought a Antec Spot Cool but there doesnt seem to be a 3 pin fan connector on my mobo.

Am i blind? I can only seem to see a 4 pin one which i havent a clue what thats for.

Any ides folks or does a adaptor exist?

This is gonna sound daft but i tried plugging it in from left to right. say |||| i put it into the first three but nothing happened.

should i tied from right to left instead?

The 3 pin on most standard (may not be dell standard motherboards) will fit on to 4 pins leaving one end pin unconnected.

In my experience with a Dell XPS5 (which is a bit older than yours), they are pooh when you need to add stuff, I added a graphics card to mine, using the OEM 6pin power +PCi feed, it would not run, had a warning on nvidia power monitor, I had to pull 2 hard drives and a modem card!

Dont throw good money after bad is my message. Dell are cheapish for standard, but keep them like that and buy new, dont start modding one, the components are too lowley specced despite what they claim!
