Cooling Dilemma

I was looking to get Dominator Platinum RAM, and an air cooler for the cpu. I fancied the Noctua NH-U14S, but it looks a very tight fit.

So air coolers and Dominator RAM don't seem go together. I would prefer the quieter air cooler.

It looks like if I want the Dominator Ram I have to go with the noisier AIO cooler. And if I want the quieter air cooler I have to go with a lower profile RAM like the Corsair Vengeance.

Which combination do you think I should go for?

Why do you want RAM that is using a PCB that is 31.35mm tall with 55mm foo-foo stuck over it in because marketing hype has many convinced they need 'heat spreaders' to keep RAM cool (we don't), but makes RAM too tall to fit under normal coolers?

Really, get some sensible height RAM and you can use most any cooler.

It's nothing but foo-foo advertising.

You could use something like NH-U14S. It's as good as NH-D14 or very close and also quiet. If you can find the True Spirit 140 Power or True Spirit 140 Rev. A are easily as good (many tests show them as good and slightly quieter) as NH-D14 .

You are right mate. I will get the lower profile RAM.

The True Spirit 140 coolers look very good.

I think I will stick with the Noctua NH-U14S, and go for the Corsair Vengeance LPX.

Makes sense.
NH-U14S has similar cooing and fan performce. It does reach a closer to PCIe sockets than True Spirit 140 rev.A does. ;)
