Cooling for my pc?

hey so this is my first time building a pc (a gaming computer that will also be used for 3D modelling); well actually my dad's offered to build the pc; but I'm buying/finding all of the parts.

I've bought everything now except fans/heat sink and honestly have no idea about what sort of cooling I should get for my pc, how many fans etc or liquid cooling? :S pretty much a complete newbie at this so I'm hoping someone could help.

Here's the specs of what I've bought so far (pretty much everything but may add a wireless network card later.):

memory: Corsair 6gb (3x2gb) PC3 - 12800 RAM memory (1600 mhz)

motherboard: Asus P6X58D-E Intel X58 1366 motherboard

Processor: I7 920 2.66ghz (won't be overclocked or anything.)

Psu: OCZ GameXSteam 850w psu (comes with a 120mm fan)

Harddrive: 1TB (1000 GB) Samsung External Hard Disk Drive

diskdrive: Samsung SH-S223 22x DVD±RW DL & RAM SATA Optical Drive - OEM Black

Graphics card: GeForce GTX 460 1GB PCI-Express 2.0 HDMI (Sonic)

pc case: Xigmatek Asgard Black, Mid Tower, ATX Case (comes with 1 120mm fan)

Thanks in advance for any responses.

buy a case fan for the exhaust on your case, the little manual should say what the max size is, i'll go and guess it's 120mm

personally i'd recommend

if your not overclocking the standard Heatsink and fan will suffice for your processor, you can though change it should the day come you want to try things out ;)

Firstly...

Welcome to the forums :)

That's some serious hardware going into that Xigmatek Asgard.!

If your not overclocking the CPU don't waste money on a third party CPU cooler. Use the stock cooler that I assume came with the i7 920? this will cope well enough with temps running at stock.

At the very least fit a decent 120mm case fan to the rear of the case to act as an exhaust and therefore expel hot air generated inside the case out the back.

An example of a "case fan" can be found here

You also have the option of changing out the front fan that comes with the case to improve/increase airflow :)

Thanks for the replies, actually I didn't get a cooler with the 920, just the chip itself. So could anyone reccomend a good cpu cooler? Also I won't be overclocking it.

Good or Excellent cooler?

What's your budget?

Maybe something like the Gelid? http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HS-001-GD&groupid=701&catid=57&subcat=1395

Maybe something a little noisier/cooler like the Akasa? http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HS-072-AK&groupid=701&catid=57&subcat=1395

Top end like the Megahalems? http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HS-005-PL&groupid=701&catid=57&subcat=1395

or the dual fan Noctua http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HS-010-NC&groupid=701&catid=57&subcat=1395

Maybe a H50 http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=WC-002-CS&groupid=701&catid=57&subcat=1395

Or an ECO http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HS-000-CI&groupid=701&catid=57&subcat=1395

Or the super awesome DH-14 http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HS-011-NC&groupid=701&catid=57&subcat=1395

To be honest for a stock 920 you dont need high end cooling but they will give you super quiet operation, long life and cool running and headroom if you do decide to go for an overclock, and let's face it why bother buying a 920 coupled with overclockers 1600 RAM if you aren't going to bother.

Edit: Just saw the £30 limit. Consider the top two then.

If the intel stock cooler is good enough for what you need, i have an unused one here from my i7 930 you can have - was only going to throw it out.

Postage shouldnt be much as long as your mainland uk
