Hi Everyone, i just recently build a new pc with an I5 3570K on board. It hasnt been over clocked in anyway. I replaced the standard cooler that comes with the I5 to a Zalman CNPS5X CPU Fan. My temperatures with 2 web pages open on google (that is all thats open just now) range from 40 - 50 degrees, my case temperature is usually around 31 degrees also. I was just wondering if i should be worried with these temperatures? or if they are okay?

cheers, Matt.

Hi Matt,

Need to find out if the CPU is idling or not (there's a chance it may not be). Download several programs like CPU-Z, HWMonitor, HWInfo. Check the "core voltage/CPU Vcore" readings in particular. Post a pic of the CPU-Z CPU window, as that might be helpful.

Also please state what drive your OS is on.

Hey Danny, Thanks for the reply. My OS is on the SSD which is the C drive. I have attached a link of a cpu reading from core temp. I left my pc running just now there for around 2 hours, came back with only one chrome window open and the temperatures had reached 57 degrees :S that is the highest its been with the case temperature being around 30 degrees. http://postimg.org/image/asuc9bskx/

Pic shows a max temp of 36c, which looks to be idle temps id guess. Also the frequency of the cpu is 4181mhz which means it is overclocked, as the stock clock of the 3570k is 3.4ghz, (3.8 under load with turbo enabled). Temps still do sound a bit high for web browsing. Was the zalman a new cooler with factory applied paste, or a cooler you already had?

ah damn, i wouldnt even know how to over clock =\ just new to all this. The Zalman was a new cooler i got from Amazon, i got rid of the stock cooler. Should i invest in another cooler? or should i just move processor frequency back to its original? Thanks again for all your help!

Could you post up a pic of the AI tuner section of the bios please. Or you can check the frequency using cpuz when doing a task that loads the cpu up.

Your cpu is indeed overclocked, (no bad thing there). Though it could be on auto voltage which can give to much and lead to high temps. Are you still getting high temps when web browsing? Did you apply the paste to the cooler, or was it already applied when bought? Also, is case airflow good and fans running correctly.

its sitting around 31 degrees the now. So will my CPU be okay with that cooler? and being overclocked? are there any pros and cons for gaming and overclocking in general? apologies if these questions sound stupid!

I applied the paste that came with the Zalman, the case has like an inbuilt temperature sensor usually measures around 30 degrees. All fans appear to be working fine. I think airflow in the case is okay, everything is a bit tight in there but theres 3 case fans and the zalman in there.

As long as your temps are fine when gaming etc, id keep the cpu oc in place. After all it's a free performance upgrade. When applying thermal paste, all you need is a tiny rice grain sized blob in the middle of the cpu's heatspreader, then allow the pressure of the heatsink to spread it out.

what would be the average temp on full load/gaming for an I5? yeah i remember putting a tiny bit on the middle, just following the instructions that game with the zalman. thanks again for your help.

No probs, what sort of temps are you getting in game? It's hard to call an average as so many factors come into play. Room temp, fans/cooler used, case airflow etc. But if your getting below 70c id be happy enough with that.
