hi,

i have just removed the thermal pad off my new heatsink and now want to apply the A.silver 5.... av left it to dry from the alcohol clean for about 40mins now, will it be ok?

plus i dnt think i can twist the heatsink wen mounted to reduce air in the compound is that a problem?

cheers

isopropyl alcohol dries very quickly if it looks dry and after 40 mins it should be work away. I always apply the paste with an old credit card and smooth it out evenly this way it get an even application and no bubbles

You should be fine to apply AS5 after 40min of drying time after using the alcohol. Apply the AS5 as thinly as possible to the Q6600 heatsink. About half the size of a grain of rice. Don't worry about twisting the heatsink as the pressure applied by the heat sink will suffice in removing excess air.

should be ok.

as mentioned if you cant twist the heatsink then apply the thermal paste in a thin even layer.

instructions say to put a line across the cpu in a certain direction and place heatsink on and let it spread out.... ?

Apply like so, and then let the heatsink spread it out.

amount of AS5 as recommended Apply the AS5 as thinly as possible to the Q6600 heatsink. About half the size of a grain of rice.

Less thermal compound gives a better heat transfer between the cpu heat sink and cooler. And less air due to the minimal amount of compound used. Or you can follow the instructions posted above Boss Maloney
