Cooling in 800d

Hi,

I am about to get the obsidian 800d. Ok, it is not too good with aircooling.
However, I am wondering what kind of cooling for my 2600k i should get?
H100, Noctua DH14 or Thermalright SilverArrow? Anything else?

H100 is definitely good and the most pricey of the two. Comes with thermal paste, but i am not sure on how loud it is and if the extra cost is worth it. I also know i would need to replace the fans.
DH14 is one of the best, I assume i also need to buy two more fans plus thermal paste.
SA is as good as the above as far as i know, plus comes with decent fans, so i only need thermal paste as extra.

In order to do a decent overclocking (nothing extreme) since i care for quite and stable and not for 1 or 2C difference what would you go for?
I am very interested to hear people with a similar setup.

Thanks

Can you elaborate this please?

Why H80 and not H100?
I would prefer not to go custom wc at this point as due to my work i will really have no time checking every now and then for any possible leakage or anything else. I want to set it up, oc a bit to a stable state and leave it as is. Maybe in the future if i have more time (and cash) i could go for a custom wc or something like EK H30 just for the fun of it but thats it...

You can go for the H100, but let me show you this:

i have an h100 with an 800d, i have it in push pull with four vipers as stock fans are loud!!! it cools a 5ghz ok @ 1.44 max temps after 4 hours prime are....

i would recomend the h100 with four vipers or *Don't link to competitors!*

I used my 800d with air cooling on my system in sig, I used the the Thermalright Ultra and never had any issues with high temps.

Ok, so what we have is:

H100 is producing the best temps (that is expected) by a small margin of course. I would need to purchase 2 or 4 fans though. No need for extra thermal paste.
This means that price here in greece would be 100 euros + 2 or 4 x 12 euros for adding Noiseblocker XLP 120mm fans. So total of about 124 or 148 euros.

Noctua DH-14 costs about 75 euros. No need for extra fans here. About 8 euros for IC Diamond 7. Rounded total is 85.

Thermalright Silver Arrow is 74 euros. So same price if added the extra paste (no need to add in any of the two air coolers though).

It all comes down to the money issue.
Does the extra cost worth it? I think not. Getting the 2600k up to 4.5 would be fine for me as after that it does not make that much of a difference and this is easily done with half the money.
I could use this extra money to replace the 800d stock fans if i find them annoying since the silent part is way more important to me compared to an extra 200mhz.

If a hydro solution ends up costing up to 125-150 euros, then it doesnt worth it. It makes more sense to add 20 more to it and purchase the Rasa Kit or even 50 and get the ek h30 kit.

Is my thinking correct here?

The stock 800d fans are not very good, the 140mm fan blowing on the hdd bay is fine as it is very enclosed but the other two you should change as they just don't move much air, although they are quiet. If you use an dh-14 add three fans to the top of the case to help move air ;)

exactly. so the total cost increases.
i think i am going with either silver arrow or archon, since they will both fit in 800d and spend the money i would spend on replacing the hydro fans to replace the 800d fans.

I have a BeQuiet Dark Rock Pro cooler in my 800D and it has never been a problem but I have added new fans to some parts my GPU's are fine to and it runs 100% load all day and night, The its no good for air seems to be a myth :)

Current temps with a 29°c ambient are 71-74°c :) < With 100% load

If you have no intention of watercooling, and haven't already picked up the 800D, I would suggest getting something like the Silverstone FT02 instead.

I do not have the intention now, but i would like to know that i have the option.
Ft02 is nice, but i like the 800d appearance better. Besides that, its a midi case and costs 210 euros here in greece and only the non window version is available. 800d is like 300 euros here which is also very expensive and i would buy it from somewhere else in europe but i get the vat back which makes it ok.

Interesting this thread came up, I'm running an 800D and i7-2600 @ 4.6Ghz.

I was thinking about replacing the fan that joins the chambers and the exhaust fan at the back. What 140mm fans have people replaced them with and did what sort of temperature drops did you see? (Pretty in-line with the OP's question!).

watercooling requires little maintenance.

plus it looks better than any air cooler.

the h100 is expensive for what you get.
you could net a decent cpu loop for that kind of cash

I can't remember where but in a video review I saw they said that after replacing the stock fans in the 800D it performed only a touch worse than the HAF932 (I think it was the 932 but it could have been the HAFX) so basically as long as you replace the stock fans it will be OK for air cooling.

I will be adding either Yate Loons, BeQuiet Silent Wings or NoiseBlockers. Availability and prices is also different down here.
Shame that postage cost in ocuk is min 20 pounds for Greece when amazon sends a lot of stuff with free postage. When i was living in the uk i was quite happy with my ocuk purchases.

I am using noiseblockers in my 800D and I definitely recommend them. They are quiet and seem to shift a lot of air :)

what's the best price you've found them on the net?
and have you replaced all the fans?
also, whats your airflow setup? i was thinking setting the rear as intake and use top 3 as exhaust
