Hi Caps,

I have a i7 920 C0 stepping and would like to perform some overclocking. I understand that these won't be as good as the D0's, but I would like to hit 3.2Ghz.

I posted a similar thread quite a few months ago but as new products are out I would like some opinions.

I have a 4870x2 in my case which generates quite a bit of heat, thankfully ages ago I bought a Accelero XTREME aftermarket cooler (does wonders by the way).

To aid in getting my case temps down I plan on buying one of these and putting it under the graphics card:

Now for my CPU. I've currently got this : http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HS-010-NC&groupid=701&catid=57&subcat=1395

But experiencing pretty "meh" results.

I was thinking of either getting a Corsair H50-1 or a CoolIT Eco A.L.C. If i get the former, I assume I can use the fans from my current Noctua instead of the stock ones to improve performance a bit better (I've heard that a lot of people have done this). Or what about a Noctua NH-D14? not sure if it will fit in my Antec 900 case though.

What do you guys think is the best solution?

Thanks,

helps if the links are actually complete

if you're worried about the space taken up by the D14 get a Venomous X or Armageddon instead, but get an air cooler instead of the H50 or Eco

Top end air coolers are better then the H50/Eco.

What i would suggest is, change the fans to 2 better ones like the Akasa vipers, or Sharkoon Silent Eagles. Will cost less then a new cooler, as your current cooler is'nt bad, its just the fans on it are not the best really.

I have the same chip as you a CO and the exact same cooler. you should be easy for you to get 3.2 out of this set up so I would just stick with what you have mate rather then spend your hard eraned. I have had my chip at 3.6 with no problems what so ever.

I had a C0 that was as good as any D0 I have had, they just run slightly hotter. It's the luck of the draw. Just because you have a C0 don't think it's a bum chip!
