My machine is keeping quite cool but the fan makes way too much noise

Was looking at putting in one of the following

Thermal-Take Golden Orb II
arctic cooling freezer 7 pro
alpine 7 gt (ultra low noise)

Just after advice as never used any of them before and the best people to ask are those that have!

I would certainly replace the 6800 cooler. I remember mine being very noisy. Also, as you said, if you are using a stock CPU cooler, then the Artic Freezer is an excellent choice for cooling, noise for the price. Make sure you get the right socket type.

I find my AC7 Pro the noisiest part of my system. Its silent below 1400rpm but once it gets going its fairly loud! In an overclocked system it gets going quite often!

Do I have to reseat my motherboard to put on the Artic?

You have to:
Possibly unscrew your motherboard from the case (its easier if you do this)
Remove the stock heatsink that you have on your mobo
Clean off the old nasty thermal paste with a lint free cloth
Re-apply a very small amount of fresh thermal paste onto the CPU and spread
Attach new heatsink - Some require a back plate others just clip/screw in
Re-attach mobo to case ... hook up all the leads

Shouldn't take you very long ... 30mins to an hour if its your first time and you go slow.

Agreed, I think mine's still a little noisy at 950rpm, compared to the two 120mm fans that came with the case (turned right down on a fan controller jnr), 'tis a bit quieter than my psu and the HD4670 though.

Thank god someone else thinks this, most people say its silent. My 4870 is easily quieter!
