Moved in to a new flat this week which and it is absolutely baking. I need to look and some more effective cooling solutions for my UnRaid server as yesterday, during a drive rebuild, one of the hard drives was hitting 50C.

I am currently using a Fractal R3 case and have a number of options as to where I can place fans.

* 1 rear 120mm
* 2 front 120mm
* 1 bottom 120mm/140mm fan
* 1 side panel 120mm/140mm fan
* 2 top 120mm/140mm fan

Currently I have 2 fans set up, one in the front (in-take), and one in the rear (exhaust). This was the default config that came with the case so have just left it like this.

I also have a three fan controller which came with the case.

Keen to get some thoughts on how best to keep this cool, is it possible to get a fan controller which spin up dependent on the temperature would like to keep it as cool and quiet as possible.

I think at the moment I am considering installing two on the front as intakes and then one in the rear and the top as exhaust? The hard drives I think are going to be the hottest part of the case (have 4 3tb NAS drives) so will need the most attention.

I would begin by adding a second intake fan at the front. The stock fans on the R3 are pretty good and not that loud. My old i7 920 was in an R3 and temp were always quite good.

If that doesn't cool it down let us know. I use and R2 myself modified for 140mm fans and have setup other Define R2/3/4's. Usually use PWM cooler fans and control them with motherboard CPU fan PWM signal so fans runs slow when system isn't working and speed up as load/heat increases.
