Cooling on Nvidia 6800 GS

As I'm sure some of you are aware, the fans on these cards are insanely noisy. Can those of you out there in the know give me some advice on how to disable/remove the fan and also what i should replace it with?

Arctic Cooling NVSilencer. Or a ghetto mod, take the fan pin out so it doesnt spin, take the top plate off the heatsink, and point a big quiet fan at it

I've got a Zalman CNPS7700-CU CPU cooler in there, would that cool them enough? I'll certainly give it a try anyway! Thanks.

I have just put a Zalman VF700-cu on mine and it is quite as a mouse now at 5v
