i started a thread earlier about the fact my CPU is cooking itself, and advice given was essentially buy a new cooler. i think thats probably good advice so now i ask what is the best P4 prescott cooler also would a new case help cooling i currently have some unknown make that i bought in Germany and i am wondering if that could also be part of the problem?

This includes watercooling possibly if you think it is worth it.

thanks for your help

Scythe ninja for a cpu cooler, plus any case that can accomodate a couple of 120mm fans that you like the look of.

I quite like the p180, but you pay a premium for low noise, so if thats not a requirement perhaps take a look at some of the cheaper antec cases, they are always well designed.
Anything from lian-li and coolermaster is good to.
Its really down to personal preference what you like the look of.

i quite like the p180 noise levels are important to me so it might be worth paying a bit extra, the scythe ninja plus i take it that is the one you mean

Thats the one. :)

Good luck with it, any problems let me know.

And a quick tip for installing it, make sure you do it with the board on a flat surface not in the case, and install diagonal clips first while keeping pressure on the top to stop it rocking about.

will do ill let you know how it goes and if it helps keep things a bit cooler i can start folding once again!

Good stuff. :)

Bit of a pig to install, but you only have to do that once... unless your me. :(

i got the case and cooler through yesterday and i have to say i am very impressed so far about a 20 degree reduction in temperatures, the case looks very smooth and is quite. also a pleasure to work and and excellent build quality. that scythe ninja is a big beast but it certainly does its job well! :D :D

Hi Lucifersam

You appear to have made a worthwhile investment in the Scythe :)

I am considering the Ninja Scythe+ myself could you answer a few questions please?

what is your setup?

what were you cooling with previously?

what were your previous temps ?

what are your temps now ?

Thanks in advance

I have one and i can tell you a bit about it.

My setup is opteron 175 2.2 1.35v @ 2.5 1.45v.
Room temp 33, cpu temp 52.
Room temp 23, cpu temp 44.
Asus a8n32 sli deluxe.

Never had a different cooler on this but i can assure you this is the best air cooler on the market.

HI Joe42

Thanks for the input, you must be in a warm part of the world those are high room temps, I am sweating here and the room temp is around 13°C-17°C(at night) not used to real warm in N Ireland :)

hi
the scythe is great here are my temps
70-75 degrees C at full load and 55 at idle with standard Intel prescott cooler and much lower room temps.
60 degrees full load with scythe ninja and 40 at idle
room temp is currently 33 and im running a 3.2GHz P4 prescott (the worlds hottest running CPU! :(
i would assume that at room temps the scythe would give much better results

its an excellent cooler i would recommend it
any more questions feel free to ask

Thanks Lucifersam

Got my Ninja+ its doing a great job even though its tight up against my video card

you can actually cut of some of the metal on those arctic cooling backplates, i used to use one of them for a X800XT i never quite worked out why they used so much metal on top of the card, neway glad its working

edit: that mobos got a weird layout your RAM is above your CPU! thats why the socket is so clost to the PCI-E :p

I noted that when I was putting it all together but was too eager to get to get up and going. Will defo look into it though when I get opportunity :)

2 notches just where the red blocks are would let the fan clips in and let the video card straighten :)

i went the whole way and cut the entire of the metal overhang off, used a hacksaw with a metal working blade, did the trick nicely, i needed to do that because i used to use it in an abit digidice where the hdd caddy was above it and it rested on the top of the backplane, hack it off then no more problem! :D

England. ;) Its been hotter than spain here recently (still is pretty hot). It certainly put the ninja to the test, and it did well.
