The night before my new graphics card was to be delivered I cleaned out my system of dust, cleaned my CPU chip and fan, added new lube and put it together. I was getting a reading of around 38,35,30 in MB moniter, a significant improvement, and that's with the G-Power fan at the lowest and my PC idle on desktop.

However, since installing my new card (7800 BFG) my PC seems to be hotter now, with readings of about 41,40,34 on MB moniter, so I am guessing it's because the new card needs more power? I mean is this normal?

it'll be cos the card runs warm or warmer than your previous card. it will heat the rest of your case up by a few degrees. nothin to worry about really :)

I'd hardly say poor. Or, maybe, I don't know.

I have a fan at the front (built into the case) and two 60mm fans at the back, plus a G-Power heatsink with the Gigabyte lube. Will having a fan at opposite ends of the case promote poor airflow?

60mm fans ? Are you sure ????

If they truly air, they won't have the power to exhauist the hot air out of oyur system ,and thus this is why you have the higher temps.

No, don't remove them that will only compound your problem. Basicly your new card is creating more heat than your previous one which is getting explelled into your case, your HSF is then blowing this hot air through your HS. Therefore the higher your case temp is the higher your CPU temp will be. The 2x80mm fans will only expell air from your case and not aid cooling if you don't alos have a decent intake.

If possible try and increase the air intake of your case as this will then be used to cool your cpu rather than the recirculated air inside your case.

You're right. I just took my room fan, took off the side of my case and pointed the fan in and around my components. When the case fan went down so did the CPU core diode.

What could I do to keep my case more cool? Apart from aiming my room fan into case all the time!

Edit - got CPU fan down low and the side of my case off, and I have never seen such low temps. Does adding a case fan to the side of the case help much with this sort of problem, as the CPU fan's hot air will blow straight out!

yeah i have a good 80mm fan intake on the side of my case which helps immensely to cool the case. Be careful using a desk fan to cool your rig, they cause a lot of static so i hear, which is great, until its near your pride and joy's guts. ;)

Having the side of the case off can be worse in the long run. It destroys the airflow, and allows dust to build up on the components..

What case do you have? :)

If your new graphics card is warming up your case too much. Why not look into 3rd party coolers for it?

But tbh, those temps are fine if its an A64. Secondly its all down to the load temps that make the difference :)

I own an iCute case, which I understand is not very popular.

It's like this one only mine doesn't have a side-fan:

I don't suppose it would be possible to buy just a new side-panel with a built in fan for my case?

To be honest those temperatures are fine. I wouldnt bother getting a new side panel, but instead save your money for a different case. Better off saving for a Lanboy or a PC7 :)

but you obviously care about the temperatures inside the case.

and a better case, will not only look better, but cool better too. AND impress the ladies

If you dont care what case you have then you may aswell forget about good temps. A better case obviously improves the cooling capabilities.

So how do you explain "better case".
There are cases that have better build quality but poor airflow, better airflow but poor quality, great build quality and airflow but poor layout.
Air cooling is limeted by the temps of the air inside the case, as it uses this to cool the components. Lower case temps= lower CPU (as an example) temps if all else is equall.
Change an NV card for an ATI one and if your on air you will see cpu temps rise.

When i said a better case, i mean a better case thats suited to him.. in this situation it would be a better cooled case :p
