Hi guys, my first post here on this great site.

Me and my nephew are about to build me a new PC, we have the case and the memory so far, and I know what I'm going to fill it with except i can't make my mind up on what cooling to go for.

To start with I will NOT be overclocking anything until I get used to the new rid and then see how I feel with the speed I have.

Here is what I have got and hope to get in the next month or two.

Case: Cooler Master CM-690 II Advanced
PSU: Cooler Master Silent Pro Modular 2 720w '80 Plus Bronze'
Mobo: Asus X79 Sabertooth Intel X79
CPU: Intel Core i7-3930K
GPU: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 680 WindForce 3 or 5x SOC
Mem: Samsung green 2x4 GB

So this is my question, what would be the best AIR cooling system for my setup to keep it as cool as possible on stock. I'm not too bothered how much it costs as long as it doesn't go much over £100.

WOW guys, thanx for all the cool ideas and pointers.

My Nephew has got back to me and said it's Samsung Green 2x4 GB memory, and I have updated the first post to reflect!

If you want the best, then it's Phanteks or Silver arrow (SBE-Extreme if you think you'll need silly fast fans). Closely followed by the K2/D14.

Either way, they're all very good. You may as well pick the one that looks nicest to you if you don't care about the potential +/-1-3°C :)

Well that was going to be my next question if I may, which would you guys say would be the quietest for the best cooling effect?

OK one last question for now, if I did want to go liquid cooled, firstly would something like the Corsair Hydro H100i actually fit in the case we have with all the other bits we plan, and secondly if it does, would it be any quieter or drastically cooler?

Silver Arrow. Not much in it though.

OK Uncle P, another quick question if I may. Of the three Silver Arrows you list, what is the relative differences?

I know that the original one is quietest and that the extreme can be noisy under heavy load/high speed, but do they for the most part perform the same at low to medium use. Also will the newest TY 143 fan version be more or less noisy than the Extreme?

Hang on, I forgot about something :o

Since the X16 slot is at the top, rather than an x1, you may have slight gpu/cooler clearance issues with the width of the fans and/or clips.

Doyll can definitely help you with that one :)

Thanx for the info Uncle P, I'll awate any further info from doyll then. I'm in no real hurry as the build will have to wait for funds to even get off the ground. As you will know, this little project is NOT going to be cheap.

Still hoping for some info on this please.

Also I've picked this power supply because it's the one I'm running how;

but would anybody care to recommend a better/quieter one?

You just hate me cus you didn't get the Extreme when you had the chance! :D

Buy the extreme and pre-order 2x TY-147 fans for £5.99 each. Use they TY-143 if you want or put the black/white TY-147's on and sell the TY-143's to Petey. :D

You lazy clod! :D
If I only had a p for every time I've posted this info.
Cooler size comparison (Width x Depth x Height looking from front of case with motherboard laying flat)
K2 . . . . . .= . . . . 8x 6mm pipes 140x128x158mm 146x154x160mm w/ 120mm & 140mm PWM fans 43.2mm*
D14 . . . . .= . . . . 6x 6mm pipes 140x130x160mm 140x158x160mm w/ only 2011 has PWM fans 44mm*
TC14 . . . . .= . . . 5x 8mm pipes 140x134x160mm 140x159x171mm w/fans, PWM adaptor included 40-45mm*
Silver Arrow . = . 4x 8mm pipes 147x123x160mm 151x149x160mm w/Fans 40.87mm*
SA SB-E . . . .= . . 8x 6mm pipes 155x105x164mm 170x130x170mm w/ 140mm & 150mm PWM fans 31.9/39/46mm**
SA SB-E Extreme 8x 6mm pipes 155x105x164mm 155x130x165mm w/fans Reason it's smaller is 140mm fan vs 150mm fan.
HE01 . . . . .= . . . 6x 6mm pipes 140x119c160mm w/ 140x38mm PWM fan
Dark Rock Pro .= 7x 6mm pipes 133x124x166mm 133x149x166mm w/ 120mm & 135mm PWM fans

*Fins above bottom of cooler. CPU is approximately 7mm above motherboard so you will have a few more mm RAM clearance.
**Fins are 3 different levels.

WOW thanx for all the infos dude, great stuff.
