I have a built in ek vrm water block on my asus maxiums x formula would it be worth while adding this into a water loop.

What are your VRM temps like under load ?

Id imagine the block would be quite restrictive, so unless you are having extremely high vrm temps, I wouldnt bother, it would also make removing and swapping parts a lot harder, having to drain the loop and remove extra tubes each time, but that really depends on how often you change parts.

I wont even add my GPU to my loop because of this reason, thankfully the ASUS strix card I have doesnt need water cooling, it runs plenty cool enough with the stock cooler built onto it.

Go for it, it's a little tricky piping from the block to cpu in past experience as it's a very short run. Makes routing tubing look neater imo.

Don't know the vrm temp as I don't have a case as well at the moment, just thought it's there why not :)

vrms on z370 boards are not getting that hot really...
unless you are pushing your cpu to the extreme i would say its not necessary ...

on the other hand.... you can do it just for looks

If it's a fault with the built in block then I would RMA that or it could come back and bite you in the butt when it is time to sell it on.

I have mucked around all day with this and one of the VRM ports kept leaking so I had to give up on it- so annoyed

If it's anything like the Maximus Formula VIII then you have to be careful when you screw the connector in. The threads on the top plate are quite shallow. Any resistance and you've probably missed the thread and this will result in a non-flush attachment and thus leaks. It can be fiddly to get the initial thread to bit but be patient :). The block itself isn't very restrictive and I always included mine in the loop since it was there and looked nice.

it looks like the thread has been poorly produced-I was incredibly careful with it as they other one is fine but tbh it doesnt really make much odds as the temps I'm getting anyway are lower than the previous mobo and it matches the look of the build just fine. It is not going to be resold at any time so RMA is not going to happen but thanks for the advice anyway

lucky you- the top one above the cpu had the first two lines badly chewed but as the board itself is working like a dream, I cant be bothered to strip it down and RMA it for something that is really not necessary tbh

Depends if you're watercooling for overclocks or silence, either way it will lower VRM and CPU temps.

Will 3/8 1/2 hose be OK not to small is it ?.
Will be fine. To put it in perspective the fittings are only 1/4 so bigger hose isn't going to cause issues. Back in the old days you could have had restriction issues if you were running G3/8 fittings and 5/16 or 1/4 hose but those days are loooooong gone.

Going for a custom build now, whats a good coolant im looking at ek blood red with this stain the loop?

All dyes will eventually stain the tubing to various extents. This will vary by type of dye/pre-mix and the tubing used. Red is usually the worst culprit.
