Cooper S Question

Do all Cooper S models (right back from the 02 plate models) feature white indicator lenses and the rear lights with the white instead of the orange indicators?

Just had an interesting experience on some B-roads. Got stuck behind some bloke in a 'Cooper S' who was razzing it, the exhaust was pretty loud but it didn't really go anywhere. In fact when I tried to match his speed I had to take my foot off the accelerator a bit. The reason I ask is that it had rear lights with orange indicators when I thought the S had white indicators and the exhaust system looked odd. For an 03 plate Mini the exhausts were much larger and had some weird beige bit underneath them. Apart from that it had the S badges and the large alloys.

I drove a Cooper S Clubman the other day and with the gas he was putting in a real Cooper S would have left me for dead.

Isn't the position of the exhaust the easiest way to tell an S from a Cooper?

Yes it had the twin exhausts in the middle but they were enormous. The exhausts on the first Cooper S model were pretty small, at least smaller than the R56. This was an 03 plate.

Could have been a JCW Mini they have a much bigger exhaust over a standard S however it would have easily pulled away from a Cooper.

Plenty of fake Cooper Ss around here most only have a Cooper S bonnet however an odd ball one has the exhaust and rear bumper but a standard Cooper bonnet.

Why would you want a fake Cooper S. Some people are really quite sad. The cost of modifying an 03 plate Mini to look like an S probably doesn't leave much left to have bought a real Cooper S in the first place.

Do you mean the side repeaters had 'S' on them?

You can change the side repeaters on a Mini in about 30 secs...

Maybe they want the look of a CooperS/JCW without the insurance premiums

How can you accuse this person of being sad when you don't actually have a clue what he was driving? Has it occured to you that he may not have been trying and could have easily smoked you?

The rear lights on an S still had the orange indicators at the rear but the clear version was an option.
