I'm sorry, I'm sure this has probably been asked a million times before but...

What's the best software to copy my DVD collection to play back via dnla?

Did it With all my music last year, and not regretted it (used lame) so now time to get these 150+ DVD in the loft.

Need a good trade off with quality and filesize, I.e not copying vobs off

Thanks

sadly you've hit upon an often discussed point

Once you've bought the disc, surely its yours to do with as you wish ? Well, yes, and no.

By using a DVD decrypting program you are not making a backup. You are bypassing the DVD copy protection (this is the bits that illegal) and turning it into a format other than what it was shipped with. To get the DVD into a format that can be played via DLNA (eg X264 MPEG) you're going to have to perform the illegal act of bypassing the copy protection

It is for this very reason DVD decrypting programs have been subject to law suits.

See the Rules thread on here for more :

The whole thing is a complete joke of course, because programs like itunes freely enable you to rip your Music CDs to mp3s despite the fact that under EU laws its obviously illegal in the same way as copying DVDs are. So the whole thing is there, but just goes undiscussed.

Crazy really.
