Howdy All,

I think I know the answer to this, but I'll try you guys anyway.

I recently had my 3rd RRoD on my old xbox 360 premium, this was out of warranty so I bought a Forza 3 Super Elite 250GB console.

I bought a 120GB for the last premium, and this contains all my saved games, the 120GB HDD came with a transfer cable, however, when I try to use this to transfer data from my 120GB HDD to my new 250GB it don't work. It loads up the transfer CD, but doesn't seem to think I have the HDD connected.

Anyone got any ideas on how I can transfer my saved games (thats all I want, don't care bout the rest)?

I assume I have to either wait for MS to update the software on the transfer CD OR buy a memory unit? Don't fancy buying a memory unit just for this, and I don;t know anyone who has one?

Any help appreciated!

ta

im in the same boat m8, just built a 250gb drive out of my old 20gb one and cant get the saves from my 120 to the new 250, it sucks. MU wont help either as it just doesnt let you move saves at all (at least not the ones i tried - FM3, Fallout 3, viva piniata)

Yeah I just went round every shop in my area (including bluewater) to find a memory unit to transfer my saves, after 6 shops, the last one (a small independent retailer) had several in stock. They do not sell them anywhere it seems, even the big retailers have none in their shops nor on their website.

OcUK say they have 1 of each size in stock, but I've been fooled by that before so webnoted them, and it appears they do not have stock of them in... wonder why they are so hard to get hold of?

Anyway, I have just copied (or moved, as some game saves cannot be copied) my save games across to th 512MB card ready for when I plug my 250GB back in and transfer my xbox account. Hopefully it will all go to plan!

All done now, everything went as planned and my Forza save is now on my 250GB hdd, woohoo! :)

Cant you just put the old 120gb HD on the new Xbox 360 and save the info you want to a USB drive/stick and then put the new 250gb one back on and get the info off the USB stick ?
Sorry if thats a daft question but even though Ive got 2 360's Ive never had to back up or mess around with them that much.

theres a program that lets you copy and paste stuff from the hard drives on windows, xplorer 360 or something.

use that to copy the files to your hard drive, then paste them over to the 250gb one

wait a sec how in gods name3 have you moved a forza 3 save to a memory card? my console just says it cant be moved i get a big error message up saying "this item cannot be moved between memory devices" wtf???

Its odd, cos a lot of people have said this? I couldn't COPY the save, it told me that, but I could MOVE it.

Have you tried to MOVE it? If you get that error on moving then I havent got a clue? Maybe cos I'm a cheapo silver member, the save is different?

yeah ive tried both, ill try moving my profile around too. My suspicion is that im not on the original console i created the save or something similar as ive gone through a number of consoles over the years. Its really frustrating as cant even copy the data using xplorer 360 and a sata adapter either

aha! cracked it, you need to have your profile on the same memory device as the save to start with (so when moving saves do so BEFORE moving the profile) ALSO you need to be signed in to that profile. Awesome only really need my forza saves, happy now especially as the 250gb only cost me £33 lol

yeah you have to be logged in, xbox will tell you you need to be logged in to move/copy saves.

I managed to move all my saves, some of them copied, and some needed moving. 1 save however wouldnt move or copy, that was a times save for forza 2, don't care about that one so that was fine.

Care to enlighten me on how it cost so little?

Western Digital 2500BEVT laptop hard drive can be made to work in place of a retail 360 drive. this is not an illegal mod although it does void the hard drive warranty (duh). I did this to get a 120 for the same price about 2 years ago. Drop me an email if you want the full info i cant post much here because its closely tied in with sites that are not allowed.

I've found out recently that the transfer kit does allow transfer to the 250GB HDD, however, you have to have the latest revision of the software. The back of the transfer software cd sleeve will tell you what revision you have, on my disc the last 2 digits of the "Part No" are 02 whereas others with the revision 04 have got it to work without any probs.

So if you have the 04 you should be fine, otherwise, do what I did, and get a official MS Memory Unit and transfer your saves across that way... worked a treat for me!

aha, this is what i have printed on my cd sleeve:

MEDIA SET: X13-59863-01
JDP94120
0207 Part No. X13-45328-02

i've fired an email to xbox support to see if there was a newer version of the cd (before i saw your reply) as i'd rather do a full copy than have to download some 7gb of rock band dlc and imports!

Yeah give them a go, chances are you will get a stock reply that won't even answer your question (as you always seem to from big companies) and then they will ask you to phone them.

Not sure if it's the same here, but in the states I think MS are out of stock of the transfer kits... suppose cos of the high demand from the amount (large amount for some reason) of people getting the Super Elite Modern Warfare xbox.

Good luck though!

aha my mate is going to lend me his 256mb memory unit he got with his arcade way back when so result there!

does it matter what order i do the licence transfer and "copying saves to memory card then onto the new hdd" in? im thinking it shouldnt as the saved games are registered under my gamertag and saves dont have the same licence restriction that dlc does, isnt it?

i've now resigned myself into getting all my rock band dlc redownloaded :(

I got a new 250g Elite yesterday and I am in the same situation with regards to Forza.
So If I have picked this up correct. I need to save my current profile from my 250gb to my memory card and then place it back on my 20gb. Sign into that profile and then move my save games on to my memory card and then finally my profile. Then copy my profile to my 250gb, sign in with it and then finish off by moving my saves from the memory card to my 250gb?
