Copy Laptop HDD

Hi all,

Need your advice.

I have a laptop here that I need to install XP on from 2000. So i need to create a backup of the HDD before I format the HDD in order to restore it to its current state should I need to.

The laptop only has a CD burning drive and a USB external HDD to store the imiages on should I need it.

What do you recommend as the best software to use for this? Free software would be best but a small cost would be ok.

True Image or Ghost will create an image file and put it on the external HDD.

Can't think of a free version though :)

acronis true image is perfect for the job

i've not used driveimagexml, but a lot of people here rant about it :) must be good
