Copying a file to second PC causes massive mouse lag!!

I've just built a second PC and setup my first network, using a Netgear DGN2000 wireless router.

PC1 (see sig below) is running XP 32-bit and wired to the router.

PC2 is running Vista 64-bit with a Edimax EW-7728IN nMax wireless PCI adapter.

The problem is if I try and copy a file from PC1 to PC2 my mouse (MX revolution, wireless, don't know if that matters) suffers massive input lag, almost like the old days when something would be hammering the cpu (however there is no extra cpu usage when this is happening).

It also happens if I use PC2 to try and copy a file from PC1 to PC2, and go and look at PC1 its lagging.

Any copying from PC2 to PC1 is fine, none of these symptoms at all.

Does anyone know what the hell is going on?

I would try a wired (or different mouse) to see if the problem persists. What about keyboard? Can you still type normally or does the whole system grind to a halt?

Check all the drivers are up to date (mouse, wifi)

Are you copying from the OS HDD? If so, that is your problem - the OS is suffering lag because the HDD is being maxed by the file copy.

Is the mouse controller on same pci bus as the network card?

Could simply try swapping the mouses usb input to another usb port, one on a different pci bus. Might help, never know.

Speculating here but it could be down to a dodgy network driver on PC1, try updating it.

As a bit of a longshot but it may also be worth trying a wired mouse to see if that resolves the issue. If so, maybe look at changing the wireless channel on your router in case it's interfering when sending a lot of traffic.

Problem fixed

Thanks for the replies

Turns out it was indeed a clash of wireless signals which a different mouse confirmed, moved the router to a different channel and all is sorted. :)
