Ive purchased a new laptop, now I need to copy over my photos etc from old laptop.
Ive got both connected over wireless to the web.
What would be the easiest way to copy files over, I have a network cable (not a crossover) but nothing seems to happen when i connect it between the two machines.

Ideas anyone ?.

Both on the same wireless router?

If so just enable file sharing and copy the files accross the wireless network.

Ive tried turning on file and printer sharing, but no drives appear, do i map the drives ?

Should it work ok with a straight network cable linking laptops ?

Look in Network Places, you may need to share a folder too, right click it for sharing options.

No, you'd need a cross over cable. Wireless will do the job just fine but may take a while depending on the volume of data, if you really want to speed things up get another cable and plug both machines into the router directly.

You don't even need a router, you can connect the two wireless laptops together via ad hoc. Wireless is painfully slow though.
