Hello all,

I've just set up my server using Windows Home Server and 4x 1Tb drives. I'm now in the laborious process of copying all my movies etc over from my other PCs to the Server using my Gigabit network and it's taking forever. I've tried phsically installing the hard drive with the movies into the Server but I can't actually open it up in explorer or My Computer so that I can just copy it across to the grouped HDDs. Should I be able to do this?

Can you see the movies hard drive in Disk Management? as you may have to enable the drive and/or assign a drive letter to it.

Yes, if you plug in the HDD, access the server either via remote desktop if you usually do or just via the desktop. No idea how you access yours. Then do as Dappy says. Mind, across my Gigabit I can get 66 mb/s sustained transfer from my Vista to the WHS system. Doesnt take that long to copy files across, but I did have to put an intel pro/10000 card in each as the onboards were terrible (15mb/s)

I'm getting 15Mb across my gigabit lan ... I assume that by putting the disk in the PC it would be a lot quicker? Ahh hold on, it's 85Mbit or 10-15MB according to my network meter ...

Thats pretty slow over gigabit tbh. My issue was that the onboard cards were poo. So spent £40 on 2 Intel PRO cards for both and now they fly. How much data is there to transfer?
