Hi All,

I have a new 500GB drive which I am going to install and then put Windows 7 on leaving my XP set up exactly as it was. When I do this I will boot from DVD and install Windows 7 onto the new disk. First question - will it list my HDDs and I choose by size or should I disconnect my old drives to be sure?

Question 2 - Once installed on the new drive will I be able to browse my old XP files to copy over address book, favourites etc? Or should I get all of those onto DVD/memory stick beforehand?

Question 3 - if I just leave my old XP installation on the second disk would I just be able to boot back into it by changing the boot priority?

Any assistance would be appreciated. I have only changed OS on a new build before now and therefore had no data to accidentally wipe. My important files are all backed up on other PCs.

Question 1 and 2 will be covered by the fact you should really back up these files anyway before doing major system changes. You could easily delete a partition by accident.

More specifically on Q2, yes you should be able to browse the contents fine providing they are not encrypted.

Q3 - Windows 7 should realise XP is there and it will be listed in a menu when you first boot.
