Copying Outlook Emails

I have a problem involving Outlook Express and Outlook.

I have a hard drive containing a bodged Windows XP installation on which there are emails in Outlook Express. I need to retrieve these emails and import them to Outlook (not Express) on a Windows Vista installation.

The problem is that the XP drive is not bootable so I can not load Outlook Express and export them. Is there any way of manually finding and copying the files across to the Vista installation and being able to read them in Outlook on the new machine?

Many thanks in advance :)

Although there might be a more elegant wasy of doing it you could copy the *.dbx files across to the Vista machine, the dbx files are the type that Express uses to store the mail in.
Then on the Vista machine you could then use Internet Mail, the revamped Express application, to import those dbx files, IIRC you import them from a stored folder.

Finally you could then setup Outlook ( I assume 07 version) to import the mail and settings from Internet Mail, as I don't think that Outlook can import from a DBX file directly.

You can get DBX reader / converters that could make the job a little easier..?

I could well be wrong...

can't you just pull the .pst file from the 'c:\documents and settings\username\local settings\app data\microsoft\outlook' folder and dump them in the same folder on the new machine. (once outlook has been set up)???

I think the reason why the OP wrote...

Outlook Express

and the Express part in bold was to distinguish between that and Outlook. OE uses a DBX file type and Outlook uses the pst file type.

OK, this sounds good, basically copy them into the 'new' Outlook Express and then import them to Outlook...

Will report back on success, thanks!
