I wondered if you kind gents would recomend me some really amazing headphones (The over the head ones) I really liked loud music and I love all the tones to sound great, esp the bass. At the moment I have these 20 quid philips things and to be honest they arent even 40% good enough.

I really want the bass to sound properly and not get easily crapped out..

About 10 years we had these technics or panasonc headphones and they were the proper dogs danglies and sounded ace back then.

I have Sennheiser HD650s and I'm not very impressed with 'em - they seem to lack depth and aren't bassy enough for my ears. I bought them on the recommendation of 'the internet'.

Best advice anyone can give you is to go to a hifi shop and listen to some to find ones YOU like. Not everyone's ears are made the same way. Take a bunch of your favourite CDs, plus a couple of 'test' albums that give a full range of sounds. Test them with a nice amp too.

The amp is a Marantz PM-7200, I think it's a pretty good amp - when I don't use headphones it powers 2 B&W 603's and sounds flipping great! Ok it's not wise to compare headphones against speakers, but the difference is greater between the amp and the HD60s, than my old pair of senn HD580s which were more similar match to the acoustics of my speakers.

It's all about environment and personal preference really I guess.

Fixed line out from soundcard, into the headphone amp, then headphones plugged into the headphone amp. Exact cables will depend what your soundcard connectors are (3.5mm stereo jack, or 2 x RCA) and what headphones you use (3.5mm or 6.25mm)

Dude, an integrated amp will have some seriously poor headphone amp circuitry amp inside it !!!!!!!

Senns really need to be driven by a good quality headphone amp, as your missing out big time. Go over to head-fi and get some advice on there, either get a good amp for your 650's or sell them and buy a slightly cheaper pair of headphones and invest in an amp.

The millett hybrid amp i got for my grado's (~£150) was leaps and bounds ahead of the headphone out from my arcam amp. Plugged them back into the arcam a few weeks later and was disgusted by the crap coming out through them.

Fstop11: Have a look at a pair of allessandro MS-1. $99 from allessandro in the US and sound better than the entry level grado's, plus give you much better value for money as grado's are a rip off in the UK.

Get the best pair of Sennheisers you can afford.

Totally agree i only have a pair of HD485 £55 and even these make any other headphones ive owned look cheap and nasty, the more expensive ones should be amazing :)

i got the same doug, (i got mine for £40! ;)) they are great but ive only ever had sub £20 before and these are a world above anythin ive tried.

have to agree with adfinni . the headphone socket on cheap integrateds is shockingly poor ( and high end ones arn't that much better ) . only way to get a good sound out of cans is to use a dedicated headphone amp . a £200 one will knock seven bells out or the pm 7200 ( ive owned it ) .

had the pleasure of owning the sugden headmaster pre-amp . had aslittle known side aspect of being absolutely brilliant headphone amp. made the silly mistake of selling it when i needed cash badly . will have to get another one at some point.
