I have two handsets & two base chargers.

The two phones are different from one another.

The first phone is a Panasonic KX-TG2511E
The second phone is a Panasonic BT 8500

I want to have both phones working with just the BT-8500 base plugged into the phone line. I did a bit of research and both phones are GAP compatible, I have been through the settings of the two phones but I can't find any options to allow the other handset to pair with the BT-8500 Base unit. Both base units are different.

The house phones are quite handy because I don't always get good cell phone reception in my home and it can be hard sometimes trying to hear what somebody is saying when the mobile phone reception keeps cutting out. It happens on all the networks I've tried at home. The house phones are very useful plus I got a good deal with BT on my landline.

My only concern with using cordless phones are that they can be eves dropped on with a scanner, I did test them with my frequency counter but detected nothing so I may be ok. I've still got my good trusty GPO & bakelite telephones still plugged into the landline as well for those more private calls.

DECT phones cannot be listened to with a radio scanner because they operate on a different frequency band and use digital encryption.
 
I’ve never used it but doesn’t WiFi calling for weak signal areas work? Does it work the same way VoIP does.

Find it crazy that people still want/use house phones in this day and age.
 
both the fibre modems from virgin and BT allow you to connect a traditional /non-voip phone - don't recollect that line is costing anything on top of the broadband cost.

I use voip from laptop most of the time but wifi calling from mobiles otherwise, due to poor mobile coverage (saw a new report that suggests ofcom underestimated how poor coverage is)
not sure wifi calling offers HD sound you can get calling within same networks on latest phones though, which you don't get yet via handsfree BT protocol in cars either.
 
Will this be the same for all commercial landlines, or they will just need to use VOIP as well?

I guess it's just the technology moving on ... we moved house a few years back, have an active landline for the purposes of broadband, but never used it.
 
I did think about rigging an RF amp to the cordless system to get more range :rolleyes: imagine that... a landline but mobile while out... I'm sure Ofcom would be impressed lol just kidding.Yeah its a shame about the landline. I quite like my old antique telephones on my BT line with the good old fashioned bell ring.

I almost exclusively use wifi calling at home. The signal is decent in the garden, but my walls are ~60cm thick mixture of stone & brick, so mobile signal is almost not existant in the house. Wifi calling works well though.

Ah, so that's why @Feek built that massive radio antenna transmitter/receiver ;)

I haven't looked up the number, but I'd be suprised if most businesses aren't using VOIP already. Even moreso with the rise of teams etc (my employer used to have landlines with dedicated numbers at every desk, then a little under 10 years ago transfered everything to VOIP with CISCO phones you can login to (so the phone number is tied to the person, rather than the desk location) to support hotdesking etc. Then a few years after that (can't remember exactly, but was pre-covid), they got rid of all those & everyone (or very near) use teams now, with an external phone number attached to that.
